My colleague Vincent Baby, riffing on a post about a new curation tool called Bundlr, tweeted that what the world needed was a new service called Mumblr. That has led to a number of other ideas, which I thought I’d gather here (in parens, the person who suggested the world-changing offering):
- Buellr, those who like to take “sick” days (Jack Cox)
- Blur, for people who don’t have poor vision but wish they did (Marc Abrahams)
- Bumbl&Bumblr, for New York City hairstylists (Rick Murnane)
- Bumblr, for beekeepers, dolts, the incompetent, klutzes, politicians, or the terminally inept (Kevin Zelnio, Maryn McKenna, Andrew Seaman, Rose Fox, Skeptical Scalpel, Rick Murnane, and Dallen Rose)
- Chumblr, for BFFs (Carla Johnson)
- Crumblr, for bakers (Denise Graveline)
- Dumblr, for the Brooklyn neighborhood Dumbo (Rick Murnane)
- Dumblr and Dumblr, for Jim Carrey fans (me)
- Er, for the confused (Marc Abrahams)
- Fumblr, for Luddites and butterfingered football players (Eric Roston and Rick Murnane)
- Grindr, for a sketchier demographic (Dante Ramos)
- Grumblr, for the cranky set and other complainers (Vincent Baby and Dallen Rose)
- Gumblr, for Bryant and Greg (Denise Graveline)
- Humblr, for egotists or those with low self-esteem (James Ledbetter, Marc Abrahams, and Eric Sorensen)
- Jumblr, for puzzlers (Denise Graveline and Skeptical Scalpel)
- KingLr, for Shakespearean tragedies (Rick Murnane)
- Lumblr, for people who have beards and wear plaid shirts, whether or not they’re lumberjacks (Leigh Krietsch Boerner and Jeff Porter)
- Mumblr, for curation (Vincent Baby, although Biotech Stock Research points out it’s already taken)
- Nimblr, for gymnasts (Denise Graveline)
- Numblr, for anesthesiologists (Brendon Shank)
- Pumblr, for dyslexic plumbers (Meredith Matthews)
- ‘R, for the most terse of pirates (Marc Abrahams)
- Ramblr, for roamers (Denise Graveline)
- Rumblr, for those overdue for a meal, or Extreme Fight Club fans (Helen Branswell, me, and Eric Sorensen)
- Scramblr, for egg lovers (Denise Graveline)
- Stumblr, for drunks (James Ledbetter, Mara Hvistendahl, and Skeptical Scalpel)
- Sumblr, for people who like to add (Elaine Schattner)
- Sundrr, for all the evil wizards, and fault lines (Emily)
- Thumbler, for hitchhikers (Denise Graveline and Jeff Porter)
- Tum/b/lr, for 4chan lurkers (Paula Chesley)
- Tumblr4ya, for Culture Club fans (Rick Murnane)
- Tumblrng Dice, for Rolling Stones fans and craps players (Chris King)
- Tummlr, for the extremely social (Maryn McKenna and Nancy Lapid, who reminds me of the Yiddish meaning of the word)
- Umbler, for Cockneys and media moguls (E.g. ‘this is the Umblrst day of my life;’ also see Humblr) (Marc Abrahams and Richard van Noorden)
I’m adding more as they come along.
By the way, this is my new Tumblr account. I realize that creating a Tumblr account to offer alternatives to the service may be ironic. But I’ll also be including other random posts that don’t fit on Embargo Watch or Retraction Watch.
And as always, I should thank my social media muse, Scott Hensley. I usually join social media platforms about six months after he does. It took about nine for me to join Tumblr once he did.
